Topic: Budding and Fruit varieties
Speaker: Lloyd Cassidy
Lloyd Cassidy, of L.E. Cooke Company, will demonstrate his budding and grafting techniques and talk about fruit varieties. Lloyd is the sales representative for most of Coastal Northern California, Southwestern Oregon, and Southern and Southeastern Texas. He has been with the L.E. Cooke Company for about 20 years, working in the Nursery Department and the Supply Department of the company. L.E. Cooke grows fruit trees, nuts, grapes, berries, vegetables, and other plants.
Fruit trees and other fruiting plants, as well as vegetable gardening, are in Lloyd’s blood. He grew up on a family farm and has worked in the horticulture industry since high school. He holds dual Bachelors of Science degrees in Business Administration and Business Management. When not working for L.E. Cooke, he spends his time doing something with his kids or playing guitar in his blues band.
A veteran speaker, Lloyd commented that he often learns more than his audience does when he speaks. However, that is certainly doubtful, as he has lived and worked in the area all of his life and is exceptionally knowledgeable. Regardless, it is certain that he enjoys speaking to gardeners, like us. He is very open to questions.
We will also have an exciting plant auction at this August meeting, with rare varieties of fruit trees available. This is a one-time opportunity to get some very rare plants. Bruce, Margaret, and others will be sharing from their collections.
