Field Trip to Member Gardens — Saturday October 12, 2013

This October we will visit two member gardens.  From 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., we will visit the garden of West Los Angeles members Hal and Cicely Golden, overlooking the Santa Monica airport.  Fragrant roses intermingle with wonderfully productive nectarine, bananas and fig trees, as well as chocolate persimmon, plum, lime, blood orange, pomegranate, mulberry and blueberries. One unusual feature of the Goldens’ garden is the two-story Concord grape that covers one side of the house.  In addition, the Goldens have bee hives on their west slope that make wonderful honey!

At 11:00 we will tour the large garden of West Los Angeles member and Master Gardener, Marlena Ross, in Venice.  Marlena’s garden has many fruit trees, vegetables, herbs, and flowers in a beautiful, peaceful mix.  It is fun to hunt around the lush garden for the cherimoya, sapote, mulberries, pomegranates, jujubes, stone fruits, figs, guavas, kumquats, oranges, bananas, blueberries, Capulin and Surinam cherries, etc.

Bring something tasty to share in Marlena’s garden, where there are various places to sit and enjoy a snack or just a “sit.”  Please do not arrive at either garden earlier than the designated time.

If you need addresses and directions, please contact one of the officers listed under CONTACT US.
