This month we will have an unusual tour of ‘The Farm,’ the edible gardens at the LA County Fairgrounds (Fairplex) in Pomona, where they maintain a wide variety of fruits and herbs. Donald DeLano, Horticulturist and Farm Manager, will lead us on a tour of the gardens. At The Farm, they showcase various common and unusual plants and crops that have the potential to do well in the local environment. They also use various watering methods to demonstrate water conservation measures.
Donald’s goal is similar to that of the CRFG. He works to bring the public’s attention to unusual and underused plants by demonstrating their propagation, production, and culinary uses. He also develops and exhibits unique growing conditions for the plants. Donald is an expert in plant propagation, culture, production, greenhouse production, pest control, plant diseases, and irrigation.
Bruce remembers the exotic mint collection at the Farm! Come and see what exciting memories you will take away with you!
