Brad Fickes’ garden is on a two-acre property in the hills. He prefers to landscape using a modified variety of permaculture. In the last few years, he has been transforming the property to include many edible plants and medicinal herbs in his landscape so that he and his family can eventually be self-sufficient, with the ability to live entirely from the productivity of their property. Brad has both rare and common fruit trees and vines, vegetables beds, and chickens. He actively produces his own compost. Brad will give a short presentation on organic citrus culture and on self-sufficiency during a disaster, which includes basic emergency preparedness. He notes that his plantings are mostly young.
Brad is the Regional Sales Manager for IV Organics. We met Brad at the April 8 meeting when Charles Malki, also with IV Organics, spoke to our group.
Plan to join us on our visit to this large, unusual garden, designed for self-sufficiency.
